Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a challenging online entrance examination that tests the basic and depth knowledge of various undergraduates subjects in Engineering and Science. It is conducted jointly by IISc, 7 IITs on behalf of National Co-ordination Board- Gate, Deptt. of Higher Education, MHRD, GoI. It is the computer-based standardized test which is conducted in the English Language only. In this exam, there are two types of questions: Objective, NDT(Numerical Data Type) of questions. The duration of the test is 3hrs and conducted for 100 marks only.

GATE Examination is conducted for various Engineering streams such as Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science & Information Technology. The passing criteria are different from several streams, Relaxation is also provided for reserved categories. Four Years Bachelor Degree ( or equivalent ) in Engg./Architecture or master degree (or equivalent in science, a computer application) is required to appear in this exam as eligibility. Students appearing in their final year of required degree are also eligible for this exam. The validity of Gate Score/Grade Card is 3yrs only. The exam is conducted annually in the month of February. There is no upper age limit.

GATE Exam is the key to get admission to various Post Graduate(PG) programs like ME, M. Tech, P.H.D. in higher education institute. Gate Scores are also being used by several PSUs for recruiting engineers at Fresher Levels. Govt. also provide some financial assistance/aid to the students during Doctorate(Ph.D.) and Masters(Master of Technology (M.TECH)/Master of Engineering(ME)) in relevant branches of science in institutes supported by MHRD ( Ministry of Human Resource Development) or some other Government agencies.

PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) in India – Recruitment, Admit Card, Result, etc.

Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) are the corporations owned by the government of India. They are also called Public Sector Enterprises. The PSUs are categorized into two sector enterprises as Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) and State Level Public Sector Enterprises (SLPSE). A Company is called PSU in a condition that 51% or more stock share capital held by Govt of India or Government of a state or both Govt, and partly by one or more State Govt.

In 1951, there were 5 PSUs presented in India. After the independence of India, India has become a country whose economy is called as an Agricultural Economy. India needs to change the economy from agricultural to an industrial or mixed economy to strength the Indian economical condition. The nation wants economic development to improve the living standard of India. For improvement in the economy, it is required to make the country in favor of the industries and needs revolution from the industries in India.

There are a total of 246 public sector undertakings in India. All PSUs come under the administration of the Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises. PSUs are giving basic economic support to the Indian economy. These PSUs are conducting all over India. They make the country completely independent in various fields in which they are working like Telecom, Research, Food, Oil, Coal etc. These PSU companies are also giving opportunities for employment in the field of Management and Technical streams. They are categorized here as Maharatna, Navratna & Miniratna on the basis of their profit and performance.

Maharatna

The companies whose annual net profit of over Rs. 5,000 crores or net worth of Rs. 15,000 crores and turnover of Rs. 20,000 crores over the past three consecutive years are coming in the category of Maharatna. Maharatna companies are eligible to make the foreign investment of up to Rs.5000 cr. or 15% of their annual profit without taking the government approval. There are a total of 8 Maharatna companies present in India, which are:-

1. SAIL – Steel Authority of India Limited
2. BHEL- Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd
3. CIL – Coal India Limited
4. IOCL = India Oil Corporation Ltd.
5. NTPC = National Thermal Power Corporation
6. ONGC = Oil and Natural Gas Corporation
7. BPCL = Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
8. GAIL = Gas Authority of India Limited

All of the above PSU companies are very well known and prestigious companies in India. They gain a huge amount of profit annually. They offer employment to PSU candidates throughout the country. Also, they provide a very good pay scale for their employees. Navaratna

A company must be Miniratna first and having 4 board directors independently. The company should get a score of 60 out of 100. This score is based upon the six parameters e.g net profit, net worth, total manpower cost, the total cost of production, cost of services PBDIT (Profit Before Department, Interest, and Taxes), Capital Employed. etc. The company invest up to 15% of their net worth or up to Rs.1000 Cr. yearly. There are a total of 16 Navartna corporations in India. BEL, CONCOR, MTNL, EILSCI, REC, HAL, NALCO etc.

Miniratna

There are a total of 74 Miniratna PSUs. Miniratna companies are divided into two categories on the bases of net worth & annual profit.

Category-I: The company should make the profits of net Rs.30 cr. continuously for the last three years or more than 30 cr, in a single year among three years. The company comes under the Category-I Miniratna company. The company which comes under category-I can invest up to Rs.500 cr. or equal to their net worth or whichever is lower. BSNL, CPCL, AAI, DCI, etc. are in Miniratna category-I.

Category-II: The company comes under category-I whose net worth is positive and annually the company should be in profit state for the last three years. This type of Miniratna company can invest the amount up to Rs.30 cr. or 50% of their net worth whichever is lower. BPC, HMT, RIEC, NFDC, MECON, etc are in category-II Miniratna PSUs.

PSU In India – Recruitment Through GATE ScoreCard

These all PSUs have regularly invited the candidates to work in them through announcing the recruitment from time to time. Todays mostly PSUs select the aspirants on the basis of GATE exam on the posts of the engineers and other technical posts in spite of arranging the separate examination related to any technical post. Because the GATE is a technical paper organized all over the country. On the basis of GATE ScoreCard, they invite the form and recruit the employee by the merit list.

Some PSUs organize separate recruitment for the technical posts and take the separate exam in different cities. They announce their results, cut off marks, and merit lists, separately. They recruit for the post of Junior Engineer (JE), Assistant Engineer (AE), Project engineer, and all other technical posts.

Non-Technical posts recruitment is being invited separately by conducting a separate examination. They call the recruitment in non-technical fields for the post of Management Trainee (MT), Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, etc. and for all other management posts.
